And Now She's Gone

My Brothers and Sisters,

Thank you all for your prayers for me and my mother in her last days. Mary Ruth Cox passed away at 5:00 a.m. this morning. I had the amazing privilege of caring for my mother at home with the help of hospice. Then this morning, I had just given her a kiss and told her I love her when I saw her take her last breath. There is something very sacred about being with someone when they take their final breath and leave this world -- a moment that I will cherish for the rest of my life.

I don't know exactly where my mother was spiritually. Because of the cancer attacking her brain, she suffered confusion and short term memory loss, then slipped into a coma the last few days. I had to commit her soul to the Holy Spirit. He alone would be able to speak with her on another level that we can neither see nor hear. I do know her spirit was tender. We are told that coma patients hear everything around them. The only time Mom shed tears was after I recited Psalm 23 and Numbers 6:24-26 to her.

I will not know the outcome of our time together until my time has ended here on this earth as well. But I simply place my mother's soul in the hands of our loving Father and Judge and accept the peace He offers that I did all I could do to minister to her.

I hope to be home soon and am anxious to get back to our study. You all have become precious brothers and sisters to me. Thank you for your gifts of prayer and words of encouragement.

Serving Together,
Jerolyn Bogear

  3. Jerolyn, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. She was one of my favorite professors in college and her and your dad were my adoptable parents. I loved going over to their house. I was from SA and so far away from my mom and it was always such a treat to go "home". I will be praying for you during this time. May God's gracious spirit minister to your aching heart and give you a deep sense of peace. Blessings, Reneé Terrill
