Ephesians 1:1-3

"Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God,

To the saints in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus:

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ." NIV

As Paul greets the believers in Ephesus, he first speaks blessings (vs3). But they are specifically "spiritual" blessings. Too often we dwell on our earthly blessings -- wealth, jobs, power, spouse, children, health, possessions, accomplishments.... God does bless us with these things, and if we are living surrendered, obedient lives, they can be used to His honor and glory. But Paul is talking here about a higher blessing -- one more valuable than all the gold in the world. A blessing that we can never attain for ourself, but can only be gained through Jesus Christ. To strive for or focus our attention on anything else is a study in futility. The Spiritual blessings of Christ are the only sustaining power we will ever need in this life or the next. Praise be to the Almighty!

Further Thoughts:
1. List the spiritual blessings God has given you.
2. How are we taught by The Word to apply our spiritual blessings? (See Matthew 28:19-20)
3. Whose life will I touch today through the power of Jesus Christ?
